The NSW Government has received an interim allocation for the 2025-26 Skilled Migration Program from the Department of Home Affairs. While we await the full allocation, several critical updates are now available for potential applicants considering the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) or the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491).

Current Interim Allocation

  • Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190): 200 places
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491): 180 places

Invitation Round for Subclass 190
Next week, the NSW Government will conduct an invitation round for subclass 190 nominations. Applicants should ensure their SkillSelect Expression of Interest (EOI) is current and accurate. Any claims made in your EOI must be supported by valid documentation if selected. This is crucial for demonstrating eligibility and progressing in the nomination process.

NSW Priority Sectors
NSW is aligning its Skilled Migration Program with national objectives to address workforce gaps and support economic growth. The NSW State Migration Plan focuses on attracting skilled talent in the following priority sectors:

  • Construction (infrastructure and housing)
  • Net Zero and Energy Transition
  • Care and Support Economy
  • Digital and Cyber
  • Agriculture and Agrifood
  • Advanced Manufacturing

These sectors reflect areas of immediate and strategic need, and applications from candidates with experience in these fields are more likely to align with current migration priorities.

Published Skills Lists
NSW has released updated Skills Lists for the 2025-26 program year. These are structured at the ANZSCO unit group level and are distinct for each visa subclass:

  • Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)
  • Skilled Work Regional (subclass 491)

Only occupations listed on the relevant NSW Skills List will be considered for nomination. If your occupation does not appear, you will not be eligible for an invitation from NSW.

Subclass 491 Visa Update
At this time, applications for the Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491) across all pathways are closed to new applicants. Further announcements will be made as the full allocation is confirmed and application processes reopen.
