The NSW Skilled Migration Program for 2024-25 is scheduled to launch in September, with applications opening in October. The program will invite eligible candidates regularly, with invitation rounds occurring every 2-3 weeks until the state’s visa allocation is filled. For those interested in migrating to New South Wales, there are some key updates and changes to be aware of.

Key Changes in the 2024-25 Program:

  1. Subclass 491 – Pathway 1:
    • The Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) now applies at the time of application. Additionally, eligible occupations can receive TSMIT concessions, either 90% of TSMIT or up to 10% for non-monetary components.
    • Applicants must work in Regional NSW but are no longer required to live in the region.
  2. NSW Skills Lists:
    • The NSW Skills Lists are being reintroduced and will be published at the Unit Group level. Occupations within each unit group will be prioritized and ranked. These lists apply to:
      • Subclass 190 (NSW Skills List)
      • Subclass 491 (Regional NSW Skills List)
  3. Subclass 491 – Pathway 3: Regional NSW Graduate Pathway:
    • Recent graduates who studied in regional NSW in an eligible occupation can now apply for nomination through this pathway.
  4. Skilled Employment Definition:
    • NSW will now align with the Department of Home Affairs’ definition of skilled employment and follow their policies when assessing skilled applicants.
  5. Simplified Expression of Interest (EOI) Process:
    • All valid EOIs for NSW nominations will now be considered, simplifying the overall application process.

With these changes, the NSW Government aims to streamline the migration process while addressing skill shortages in regional areas. This is a great opportunity for skilled professionals and graduates to apply for a nomination under the updated program.
