We are excited to announce that applications for the Skilled Work Regional Visa (Subclass 491) – Pathway 1 and Pathway 3 – are now open for the 2024-25 program year. These pathways offer a unique opportunity for skilled professionals and recent graduates to work and live in regional New South Wales (NSW), contributing to the state’s growing workforce and community development.

Below are the key details and eligibility requirements for each pathway:

Subclass 491 Visa Pathway 1: Working in Regional NSW

Pathway 1 provides an opportunity for skilled migrants currently employed in regional NSW to apply for the subclass 491 visa. Here are the key requirements:

  • Occupational Eligibility: All occupations eligible for the subclass 491 visa can apply under this pathway.
  • Regional Employment Requirement: Applicants must be employed in their nominated (or closely related) occupation in a designated regional area of NSW. Employment must have been continuous for the past six months with one employer based in regional NSW.
  • Salary Requirement: Applicants must earn at least the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) from their regional NSW employer in their nominated occupation.
  • Greater Flexibility for Applicants: The requirement to live in NSW has been removed, allowing applicants living in border towns to qualify under this pathway.

For full eligibility criteria, please visit the NSW Government website.

Subclass 491 Visa Pathway 3: Regional NSW Graduate

Pathway 3 is designed for recent graduates from educational institutions in designated regional areas of NSW. This pathway offers skilled graduates the chance to start their careers in regional NSW.

  • Education Requirement: Applicants must have completed a bachelor’s degree or higher from an institution in a designated regional area of NSW.
  • Points Eligibility: Qualifying study must meet the criteria to claim points for study in Regional Australia, as per the Points Table for the subclass 491 visa.

Detailed eligibility for Pathway 3 is available on the NSW Government website, where applicants can verify that they meet the requirements before applying.

Limited Availability for Subclass 491 Pathways 1 and 3

Due to limited allocations, spots for Pathway 1 and Pathway 3 under the subclass 491 visa are restricted. Investment NSW has the discretion to close these pathways once all places are filled, and applications may be declined if they do not meet the criteria or are deemed not in the best interests of NSW.

To maximize your chances, we recommend that prospective applicants review all criteria carefully and apply promptly.
